Overview

Explanation of scale used

Anonymous student course evaluations, which are administered in all GCom classes at WIU, consist of 23 catalog statements and 5 core statements. Possible responses to all statements include: Strongly Agree (5 points), Agree (4 points), Undecided (3 points), Disagree (2 points), and Strongly Disagree (1 point). A score of 5.0 throughout this document equates to the positive / “Strongly Agree” side of the scale. The scores contained in this document refer to responses to only the 5 core statements:

  • My instructor motivates me to do my best work (abbreviated below as: "instructor motivates")
  • My instructor explains difficult material clearly ("instructor explains")
  • Course assignments are interesting and stimulating ("interesting assignments")
  • Overall, this course is among the best I have ever taken ("best course")
  • Overall, my instructor is among the best teachers I have had ("best instructor")

Summary of all classes

The following results represent the average scores of all classes taught (78 courses total, Fall 2004 through Fall 2013).

  • My instructor motivates me to do my best work = 4.7 / 5.0
